Host

Annette Renee

Annette Renee has taught in public school for almost 20 years, where she has made science fun for her students and taught them that it didn’t have to be hard. Even there, her love for Jesus shines.

She meets monthly with young women to encourage them through art, hiking and other group activities to see their value and that the Lord cherishes them. In her free time, Annette enjoys many of the same activities. She likes to draw, paint and create multi-media pieces that often focus on nature and God’s amazing love and grace. She also enjoys hiking, kayaking and scuba diving when time permits.

Several years ago, her life was turned upside down, and she had to lean heavily on the Lord and let Him lead her out of the valley. Most of the episodes on her podcast Survivors Traveling Lightly are based on the wisdom and knowledge that she gained during that time. She enjoys teaching about the healing process, the tools that helped her move on, and how using the Scriptures creates a strong foundation for better mental health.

Guest Speakers

Judith Kambia Obatusa

Nigerian born Judith Kambia Obatusa – JKO is a writer, podcaster, women’s clarity coach and community advocate who speaks and writes about domestic violence and women empowerment. She holds a Master of Arts in Intercultural and International Communication from Royal Roads University and the Migrant Systems Change Leadership Certificate from Simon Fraser University.

JKO is the host and producer of Messy Can’t Stop Her, a podcast that shares the stories of women’s resilience through chaos, crisis and the challenges of life on Apple podcasts, Spotify and other listening platforms.

Since 2010, JKO has been involved in women's empowerment advocacy, starting as a volunteer counselor with the Thriving Business Women Fellowship (TBWF) in Lagos, Nigeria. Her role as a Community Champion for the Multi-Cultural Council of Windsor & Essex County’s Immigrant and Refugee Communities - Neighbours, Friends and Families (IRCNFF) campaign in 2015 ignited her passion to address the menace of domestic violence. This inspired her to create ‘Broken and Braced’, a platform for disseminating information about domestic violence.

A recipient of the 2016 WEST of Windsor Phenomenal Woman award, she also went on to serve the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) IRCNFF campaign as a Community Champion.

A lover of the written and spoken word and in their power to transform, motivate and elevate, JKO “shamelessly” shares her personal struggles with domestic violence and the child welfare system in Canada to de-stigmatize immigrant acculturation challenges and sensitize migrants about the impact of domestic violence on their success in their “promised land”. Her reflections can be found on judithmusing.blogspot.ca and in anthologies like Words Gathered Volume 3 Community Poetry, Relatable Voices anthology of stories that make you smile and the  best-selling The Warrior Women Project anthology which shares the immigration experience of 22 women living on three continents.

JKO’s deepest desire is that every woman would know herself, accept herself, and love herself. She dreams of a world where the culture of shame and silence that enables domestic violence in our communities is eradicated. This vision inspires her podcast’s love projects such as the anthology, A Letter to My Darling Husband – on Amazon and the Empowered Faith Tees Shop. Proceeds from Messy Can’t Stop Her’s love projects support domestic violence and women’s empowerment initiatives.

JKO’s greatest pleasures are writing, worshiping God in songs, serving in community and coaching women to find their passion and listen to their heart. As she says, “Your heart is your very own God-given GPS to guide you on your journey of life.”
